I wish to nominate my Dad to receive this prize. He is the kind of person who will share what ever he has. We were bought up in the Far North, if my Dad saw anyone hitching in our area, they would be invited to come back for a meal, a shower and a bed if needed. We even shared Christmas with people who came to us as strangers and left as friends. Once my Dad won a small amount of money from bonus bonds, his reaction? he went out and bought each of his children a sizable gift, leaving just enough for he and Mum to go out for a nice dinner. Since retiring in town my Dad now has close neighbours, we wondered how he would cope. All of them have been to my Dad's for a meal and a chat. Behind his house there is a walkway that is used by numerous people. Despite a heart attack, a hip replacement and being on a pension, Dad has created a 200 metre garden along the riverbank filled with beautiful plants, just so walkers can enjoy it. My Dad believes in random acts of kindness, he looks for ways to help and benefit others. He is one of eight children and now has only two siblings living, one is in America and the other in Christchurch. For my dad to be able to travel to to see his sister in the South Island would be a dream come true
