My Inspirational MUM Kathy Hopgood

I would like to nominate my inspirational mum, Kathy Hopgood.
This year my nana was diagnosed with terminal cancer, she had survived breast cancer 13 years ago, but it had again struck, this time in the liver and stomach. From April to June, when my nana passed away, my mum and aunty took turns to nurse my nana as she wanted to be at home. This meant every second week my mum flew from Invercargill to Palmerston North and then drove through to Dannevirke to nurse my nana.
It was an emotional journey every time and a costly one as each time it was a full price fare.
After my nanas passing my mum then had to face patients with the same diagnosis at her work, She is the support co ordinator at the Southland Cancer society,which meant being faced with the reality of losing her mother time and again.
It has been a rough couple of years for my mum with a lot happening. My brothers marriage broke up, we have lost 2 young family friends, and the toll of her job has left my mum stressed, tired and at times broken, but through it all she has always been there for my whole family and offered her help, guidance and support unconditionally.
