Vote for Mary
My mother is a hardworker, always caring for, providing and supporting others.
For years, she worked as a nurse caring for the mentally handicap in Nelson, then later for the elderly at Bethesda in Auckland. Now she is still tirelessly working away, caring for an elderly woman, who is wheelchair bound due to a stroke. She has always done her work with the upmost pride and compassion.
Her one passion is her garden and any moment she gets she is always outside, rain or shine, working away. It truly is the Garden of Eden! Here greatest joy is when the fruits of her labour are ready to pick, pickling and bottling, sharing with and providing others. Last weekend my greatest delight was standing in her vegie garden helping myself to fresh salad greens to make a yummy salad!
But most of all, she has really been a huge support for both my children and I. She held my hand during both my births, looking after my firstborn at age eighteen so that I could finish my polytechnic course. She has played a pivotal role in their upbringing, supporting me both emotionally and financially over the years when times have been tough, buying my children clothes, taking them away on holidays, paying for extra activities that would never have been possible.
I would really love to thank her by flying her down to Christchurch so that she can be with family and retouch her grandmother's gravestone.
