Our Mum - Carolyn Hayes

She is a beautiful person, who is constantly helping others and is tireless in her efforts.As well as working fulltime, every year she organises the Breast Cancer Appeal in Palmerston North and this year managed to get the Clock Tower, Regent Theatre and PDC Plaza lit up in pink to help highlight the Appeal. Having lost her sister to breast cancer, this is a cause dear to her heart, and ours, and has been for a long time.She is also Chairperson of the Abbeyfield Committee which this year saw the successful completion of a house which provides support for older people who do not wish to live alone. After many hours of organisation and sourcing of funds, they obtained land and had the Army build the house. And of course the help is ongoing; Mum and the other volunteers are continually helping out at the house. Mum is also involved in Lions and always off somewhere to help out with fundraising.In her 'spare time' she is a Celebrant (marriages, funerals, naming ceremonies). She puts many hours into this - especially the weddings and I am often telling her she doesn't charge enough!Mum is well loved by everyone and we would dearly love her to win so she can take some time for herself and go have a nice relaxing time anywhere.Plus its her birthday and we think she really deserves it. She doesn't know I've nominated her...
