I would like to nominate my Mum and Dad. The most beautiful, hard working, non-selfish, loving and caring parents. Both such hard working parents who need a break. Yes you hear this all the time as all parents are amazing, fantastic and the worlds best gift to children, however my story is different.
My family hasn’t exactly had it easy over the past years….who’s hasn’t you ask? Mine. My family moved up to Wellington from Dunedin in 2001. We moved to be closer with our extended family, and to get my brother away from the not so good lifestyle he got into – whilst mixing with the wrong crowds.
My Dad was diagnosed with Multiple Miloma Cancer 2 years ago. This is a form of cancer that is spread right through his bone marrow, in the whole of his body. The last 2 years were very rough on us all. He has had radiation therapy, chemo therapy, bone marrow transplants, blood transfusions and much more. Having 2 Grandkids, 3 children and a wife, he’s been a true inspiration to us all. He’s a fighter even though the doctors’ have told him that this is fatal. My family are Christians, and I believe and have faith in our God. We believe he will be healed.
During the past 2 years, my sister has been fighting a custody battle for her 2 beautiful children. This has especially been hard on my Dad as he’s been unwell and doesn’t like my sister’s X has been abusive to my sister and abusive and disrespectful to my family. The last 2 months our family was given the best news. She was given the Full Day to Day custody, and the Father who is no longer in their lives is not allowed to see them unless he goes through the court.

I praise God for continuing to bring healing to my family. No matter what you go through these days, you need to be there for your family. Through thick and thin! I love my family. If I could send my Mum, Dad, Sister and 2 Children away for a break – That would be the best gift anyone could give me. That’s how much I love my fanau.
