Kia-ora my name is Ginelle and I belong to what you may think is a very unlucky family – what could go wrong will go wrong. My poor mum has had to put up with this bad luck for years and its about time she was recognised for her tremendous effort! I belong to a family of four children, myself and three younger brothers. Though we only have four children in the family, mum has spent years in hospital with the four of us. I myself battled cancer for almost two years, had 16 months of chemotherapy, and an operation to remove one of my kidneys. Needless to say, I have been in and out of hospital most of my child life. At the same time as this, mum was pregnant with the first of my three brothers (what a trooper!). The saga does not end here…..due to complications with scars, I have had two other operations to stop my intestines from ‘sticking’ to the back of my cancer scar. Mum has been by my side morning, noon and night to look after me – even at the age of 19 she was still in the hospital with me. My two other brothers are twins and were born three months premature – one of them was more ill than the other and mum was called in at least twice to say that they didn’t think he would ‘make it’ through the night. He did – but with complications. My poor little brother Scott went into cardiac arrest in front of mums eyes twice and had to have an operation to remove a hernia. Finally he pulled through – but not for long. At the age of four he fell over at the hot pools. Unlike a usual family, this caused major drama and he had a bug travel up through the wound, into his bone marrow and spent two weeks in hospital in traction (mum was by his side as usual). I have not had time to explain the rest due to a word limit (but believe me there is more!). I for one would not be here without the support of my mum, so vote for Chrissy the ultimate super mum.
