Vote for John
I would like to nominate my husband John. At the age of 44 (14 years ago) while on business in Wellington he suffered a massive stroke down his right side and from that moment on life changed for everyone. He lost the use of his right side, speech and eye sight, however the eye sight came back and over the years the speech to a certain degree. This has not stopped John from living life to the fullest. He learnt to drive again which gave him independence even driving from Auckland to Wellington on his own to visit family, took up painting, left handed which was unnatural to him, and now his paintings are pride of place in many friends and families homes. . Initially it would take John over 2 hours to peel one potato, with his perseverance and determination he now cooks the evening meals on most nights. Built himself a platform so he could paint the ceilings, moved lawns one handed. He has also gone back to sailing something he has loved to do over the years and is very much involved with Sailability having competed for NZ in Australia and Canada. He now works with rehabilitating Stroke, Parkinsons and MS people through Conductive Education. But the best accomplishment was to continue to bring up our three teenagers into caring and loving Adults through the turmoil this had on them, along with the greatest patience and sense of humour one could wish for.
