Rome and Grace Davis

Vote for Rome and Grace
I would dearly like to nominate my Dad (Rome Davis) & my Mum (Grace Davis) as well as my sister Taina Main & sister Rowena Tana for these flights. They are definately worthy recipients for these flight deals.
My mum Grace is in her 70's and is still teaching in the Billingual Unit at Kawakawa Primary BOI. Everyone lovingly knows her as Whaea Grace or Aunty Grace. She is always giving to others both colleagues, Students, Friends ,Whanau as she puts others ahead of herself and always with a smile. She is the most unselfish person I know and both her and dad have been the best, most supportive pareents that we could have ever been blessed with. There are not enough words to describe how many people's lives my mum & dad have touched. My dad is in his 70's too and he too is a very very very hard worker. He is running 2 farms (1 farm voluntarily) and has never believed in using modern technology to help get him around the farms (No motorbikes, quads or flash tractors for him) everything is done by foot. He does have a couple of old Massey Fergie tractors that 9 times out of 10 are out of action, so it's back to foot traffic for him. He always helps out on maraes (Motatau & Karetu), when ever there is something on and always in the kitchen and cleaning areas or working hard in the back areas. They love all of there moko's and great moko's equally I have 4 sisters and 1 brother. My oldest sister Taina has just turned the big 50 (End of September) and she is what one would call a SUPER mum & sister. She really deserves something special. She has home schooled her 10 children and is always just a phone call away should any of us need help. She drives out with 4 of her children daily to give help where needed to my dad on the farm along with my sister Rowena Tana. Rowena is involved alot of community going ons. She is a hard worker and gives her time voluntarily to help anyone in need. She is also there for my parents and the rest of the whanau and deserves a break away with Dad, Mum and Taina. As you can see they are all worthy recipients and are deserving of your votes. PS they all bake the best cakes and cookies ever. (Ooops dad is the exception there)

I tautoko this nomination. These four people are the most deserving people that I know of.

Grace has been teaching for over 50 years and is still teaching. She is such a valued teacher to our local schools, especially Kawakawa primary that I doubt that she will ever truly retire from this profession. She never slows down, always helps at Marae, purchases educational resources for her classroom and students with her own money. She is a true giver.

Rome, he also gave at least 40 years to teaching. He is a farmer who gives willingly to the community with animals from his farm, to help others. For at least 9 or 10 years, he has mowed his inlaws lawns by foot (no ride on for him) and these are acre sections not small backyards - even though he himself is in 70s. He is just a couple of years off 80 and with the recent death of his mother in law, has only just stopped mowing her lawns, although he continues to mow her brother's even though he is no longer alive - just to keep the place tidy. He does many many other things for others - too numerous to mention.

Taina Main - what a champion - 10 children and all home-schooled. Her husband works but is not on a high wage, and she grows her own veges etc to sustain her family. She is giving, really really really giving. She lives off the smell of an oily rag and manages to keep her family afloat. SHe helps others without questioning, moaning or issue. She is a shining example of true motherhood. She deserves a good trip somewhere ... anywhere and would really enjoy it with her mum and dad.

Rowena Tana, she is another who is very deserving. A community giver, someone our oldies in the community can rely on, a wroker through and through who never asks for anything in return.

Actually, this family has never asked for anything in return for the voluntary family and community work that they do. They are all amzing examples of what good, honest and hardworking people are and should be. Duplicate them. Please vote for this whanau, they are so deserving.

I live in the Kawakawa area and Whaea grace is just the best. She is always happy and cheerful and the school children just love her classes.

i am so happy to be able to have found Rome and Grace's and two of their daughters' names on this website. i really want to support this nomination as they epitomise the theme of grabbies 08 and are truly inspirational people. rome was a much loved principal of many rural schools and when he finally retired from teaching at paparoa primary school he and grace were sadly missed by this community. when grace's parents wanted to leave their farm in Motatau rome and grace took over the running of the farm. during the week they were the hardworking teaching duo (principal and primars teacher)at a 4 teacher school, then every Friday night they and their family (they have six children and have looked after a few more too), would travel in their rusted out holden station wagon and drive for 2 hours to the farm, getting there late at night, put up fences, clear blackberry, thistles and ragwort, dig drains and dams, move cows around etc, and then every Sunday night, they would drive back to Paparoa to start teaching on Monday morning. The experiences that they gave to our children who were friends of their children. they would holiday on the farm with Rome and Grace's family and experience farm life the old fashioned way and they loved it. Taina and Rowena are also inspirational people and they have had two fabulous role models with their parents. Taina is the mother of 10 children and I understand that she has home schooled her children who have been given many wonderful opportunities by their mum like music lessons for piano, violin, guitar and sitting their exams for these too, as well as home economics, knitting, sewing, needlecraft, art. If only some of today's young parents could take just a couple of leaves out of her book they might find inspiration. Her adult and teenage children are all working - the eldest is a chef in Melbourne, one of her twins is in IT and the other is a diesel mechanic, the next son has worked in conservation, forestry and is currently a farm manager, the next son down who is 18 or 19 is a plasterer, the next son down is working in some other kind of apprenticeship. The family values and work ethic that she has taught and given her children is nothing short of amazing. she has 4 more still in the nest at home, and she makes sure that they help her father on the farm.
rowena is also inspirational. at the very young age of 16 she was to be a mum and has been married to her her husband (the father) for close to 30 years if they are not there already. before she was 20 her husband was diagnosed with stomach cancer and they had 2 young children under 3. she nursed him through and not long after adopted their 3rd child a beautiful son. they have a strong relationship and she has always looked after others and her family. no job was too small or too hard for her and that continues to be her motto because although she has a very good job now she is always helping out at local marae, the school, other peoples children. she's a willing driver for the oldies and drives them to community meetings and gatherings. Again, another inspirational NZer who is well deserving of this reward and I am very glad to have been able to support this nomination.

Thank you for the opportunity to support this nomination. Rome and Grace are both very deserving people and so are there daughters Taina and Rowena. This family is well known as coming from "hard working stock" and they are always helping others. Education is an important part of their lives, helping others to be the best that they can and believe in themselves. They are tireless givers and my family has known them for many years. They will reach into their pockets to help others. They will help out wherever they can. Although Graces still works until the early hours of the morning preparing school records and marking school work she has rarely missed school herself even when she is sick. I cannot recommend or commend this family highly enough for nomination and I hope that Rome is finally able to go to Invercargill this summer with his wife and two of his daughters. Good luck to this family.
